Alexander Maclean

My great Grandfather Alexander Maclean had a joinery and undertaking business based in a shed on the Station Road. Some time ago the shed was demolished. Here is where it stood.

He was a strong supporter of the United Free Church and when the union of the churches took place it is said that his influence and broad-mindedness was regarded as playing a major part in what was regarded as one of the most harmonious and happy unions to have taken place between two churches. He was for nearly thirty years the esteemed local correspondent of the "Strathspey Herald." Contributing news on the village.

He purchased the land an built a house in the village, not now owned by my family. One room in the house was left with original decor.

Some of his original business paper work has been found. His standard pre-printed forms as well as his business ledger.

He died suddenly in 1939 and his obituary gives us an insight into his life and the life of the village.
