| The House |
| There are
several facts about the house that the team stayed in that will become apparent
as we progress. |
| One is that the coal fires and electric heaters will not heat it for
at least two days. |
Don't question it, it is a simple Law of Physics. |
| Very often the team were the first people to
live in the house for six months. It was usually colder inside the house
than outside, with frost
forming on the inside of the windows. |
| The first night was always spent before bedtime sitting in the front room
with the fire blazing. |
| The heat emitted unfortunately meant that all the chairs were
pulled forward so that feet could be placed in the hearth. |
| On subsequent nights the chairs could be pushed further and
further back as the heat permeated further in to the room. The drying out
process also meant that there was an excess of condensation on the windows for
several days that required mopping up.

"It
was possible to feel warmth on the front of the body and be aware of a chilling
cold on your back." |
